The VLC for Mobile app, which can play a range of media formats usually incompatible with Apple devices, has been updated with a range of new features for recent iPhones and iPads.
The VLC app is popular with many iOS users eager to play video and audio files that would typically first have to be converted to more Apple-friendly formats. With todayās update to the free iOS app, it is now also possible to Spotlight search for media files system-wide, and unlock the app using the Touch ID fingerprint sensor in many recently-released iPhones and iPads.
Another addition is support for the Split View multitasking feature available on the iPad Air 2, iPad Pro and iPad Mini 4. Curiously, however, there is still no mention of support for the Picture in Picture feature, which would be obviously more suitable for video playback, available on the above iPads as well as the iPad Air, iPad Mini 2 and iPad Mini 3.
Also released alongside the changes for the iOS app is an update to the VLC for Mobile app for watchOS 2 on the Apple Watch.
