It’s long been unclear when exactly Windows 10 Mobile will launch for devices currently running Windows Phone 8.1. However, a new report claims that Microsoft is testing a cumulative update for Windows 10 Mobile potentially in preparation for the system’s broad rollout “sometime in March”.
That report, from WinBeta, says that the new update, known as build 10586.164, is a minor one with “no notable changes at this point”. However, the Windows-centric news site reckons: “It’s likely that build 10586.164 will continue improving the migration process from Windows Phone 8.1 to Windows 10 Mobile, as the official rollout is set to begin sometime this month.”
Though it was previously speculated that Windows 10 Mobile could arrive on February 29, WinBeta‘s sources have reportedly insisted that this “was never planned as a launch date, and that sometime in March has always been more likely.” The system is currently only available preinstalled on a small number of recently-released devices, including the Lumia 650 Dual Sim, pictured above.
Build 10586.164 should be released to members of Microsoft’s Windows Insider program during this week, and later released officially provided a newer patch doesn’t arrive first, WinBeta further reports.
