98% of developers will benefit from Apple’s App Store commission cut

Almost all developers will benefit from Apple’s decision to cut its App Store commission from 30% to 15%, with only 2% of developers on the App Store earning more than $1 million per year.

According to data from appfigures, the vast majority of developers will see an increase in their revenue following Apple’s plan to reduce its commission this year.

The ultimate aim for Apple in reducing its commission rate was to appease antitrust regulators and support smaller businesses, and though larger organizations such as Spotify are still complaining about Apple’s dominance in the sector, the reaction has been overwhelmingly positive and in Apple’s favor, with most now paying just 15% of App Store revenue rather than the previous 30%, provided they earn less than $1 million/year.

An interesting tidbit from the report revealed that 40% of developers that earn more than $1 million earn less than $2.5 million, which will no doubt be frustrating for those outside of the threshold, making it harder for them to earn the same revenue as a firm with a smaller figure.

What’s even more interesting is that developers that make more than $150 million in revenue from the App Store make up an eye-watering 29% of Apple’s App Store revenue.
