Apple is bringing SharePlay to its new Fitness+ streaming service.
The Cupertino company announced that SharePlay would allow iPhone, iPad, and Mac users to enjoy shared experiences with friends and family over FaceTime calls, and that they’d now be able to work out together using the new Fitness+ platform, spurring each other on and allowing them to work out from the comfort of their own home.
From November 3, Fitness+ will also launch in 15 new countries and territories, bringing the total number of locations to 21 as the fitness service continues its expansion. Apple already offers Fitness+ in English and it will soon offer subtitles in Brazilian Portuguese, English, French, German, Italian, Russian, and Spanish.
Apple has also confirmed that three million insured UnitedHealthcare members in every state of the United States will be offered a free year-long subscription to Fitness+ – though it’s unknown whether this is an extended free trial or something that UnitedHealthcare will continue to fund once the initial period expires.
Speaking of the news, Jay Blahnik, Apple’s vice president of Fitness Technologies, said: “We created Fitness+ so everyone would have a place they feel inspired and motivated, no matter where they are on their fitness journey. We are so excited to be available to millions more people as we bring Fitness+ to 15 new countries next week, and can’t wait for them to meet our welcoming trainer team.
“We also think our users are going to love working out or meditating together with SharePlay. It’s a really fun way to connect with friends and family, even trade some words of encouragement or friendly smack talk, while also making progress toward closing their rings.”
