Apple calls time on 17-inch MacBooks

It’s bad news for owners of the 17-inch MacBook Pro.

Apple has announced plans to make its Mid-2011 MacBook Air and Late 2011 MacBook Pro obsolete from June 30, meaning that, if your device breaks, you’ll no longer be able to have it officially repaired.

According to 9to5Macthe computers will be added to the tech giant’s obsolete products document, meaning that the Cupertino firm has discontinued support for the hardware in all countries.

The first 17-inch MacBook was unveiled in 2006 and was made available until 2012 when the model was removed from the lineup. And, although the notebook has been updated since 2012, the last major update to the device was actually in 2009, when the MacBook Pro was handed a new unibody.

Mac fans looking for a new professional device could consider the iMac Pro, which will be released in December with a $5,000 price tag. It’s one of Apple’s most expensive computers to date and aims to bridge the gap between its standard iMac computers and its Mac Pro, which is also expected to see changes in the coming months.
