Apple unveils new iPad Pro with trackpad support

Apple is taking the iPad Pro to the next level with the launch of an all-new device, featuring an innovative new A12Z Bionic chip that will make the iPad more powerful and faster than most Windows PC laptops.

Featuring an Ultra-Wide camera, studio-quality microphones, a stunning dual-camera setup and a new LiDAR Scanner that offers cutting-edge depth-sensing for augmented reality, Apple has put the Pro back into the iPad.

Apple will also launch iPadOS 13.4 in the coming days, bringing trackpad support to the iPad for the first time with an all-new Magic Keyboard for iPad Pro, offering a desktop-like experience on a stunning touchscreen device.

However, Apple hasn’t copy and pasted code from macOS – it has developed an all-new experience with a pointer that transforms to highlight user interface elements, so users can navigate without having to lift their hand.

The Magic Pro Keyboard is available separately and offers a backlit keyboard, a new “floating” design with smooth angle adjustment and scissor-switch keys similar to the new MacBook Air.

This new device won’t be on the market until May, so users will have to wait for a desktop-like iPad experience.

Speaking of the new device, Phil Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing, said: “The new iPad Pro introduces advanced technologies never before available in mobile computing. Combining the most advanced mobile display with powerful performance, pro cameras, pro audio, the breakthrough LiDAR Scanner and new Magic Keyboard with Trackpad, this is another huge leap forward for iPad.

“There’s no other device in the world like the new iPad Pro and we think our customers are going to love it.”

“We’re making iPad even more capable and versatile by bringing trackpad support to iPadOS,” Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of Software Engineering added in a statement.

“We carefully considered the best way to integrate trackpad use into a touch-first environment while retaining everything our customers know and love about the iPad. We’re thrilled to bring this new way of interacting with iPad to the millions of people using iPadOS today.”

The A12Z Bionic chip and eight-core CPU are designed to work in harmony, with enhanced thermal architecture to create the highest-performance iPad to date. When that’s combined with the iPad’s Neural Engine, 10-hour battery life, faster Wi-Fi and gigabit-class LTE, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t update to the new Pro.

Apple’s new iPad Pro has the same edge-to-edge Liquid Retina display as the previous generation, with P3 wide color support, ProMotion technology to adjust the display refresh rate, and True Tone technology.

The new 12-megapixel Wide camera helps to catch stunning photographs on the iPad Pro alongside 4K video, whilst the 10MP Ultra-Wide camera can zoom out two times to capture a wider field of view, doubling the possibilities for video and photography on the iPad and creating an all-in-one device professionals will love.

That’s without mentioning the five studio-quality microphones for capturing audio, and the breakthrough LiDAR Scanner, which can measure the distance to surrounding objects up to five meters away, offering more advanced AR experiences on the iPad. Combined with ARKit and new APIs, the future has never been more exciting.
