Sony to Scrap microSD Slots?

It’s rumored that Sony’s next flagship phone won’t come with a microSD slot. The rumors come after photos of the Sony Xperia Z4 didn’t seem to feature a slot for a memory card. It’s also thought that the phone will be 6.3mm thick, 1mm thinner than the phone it will be replacing. This would make it thinner than the Samsung S6 and the iPhone 6.

The reduced thinness may also mean that features including waterproofing being removed. If the rumours are true, Sony will be following Samsung by launching a flagship mobile device without a memory card slot. The S6 and S6 Edge will not feature a memory card slot or a removable battery, despite reports that some models could cost over $1,000.

Sony were expected to use the Mobile World Congress to launch a new flagship device but instead decided to unveil a mid-range phone, saying they were concentrating on “broadening” their customer base. Microsoft also held back the launch of their next flagship, with experts predicting that their next high-end device will be released after Windows 10 is made available. Sony had been releasing a high-end smartphone every six months or so until recently.
