MagicBand is one of the most iconic things about heading to Walt Disney World Resort, allowing you to use your wrist to get into the park, queue for rides, and even pay for food and merchandise when you’re out and about.
But in recent years, the technology has been superseded by smart wearable devices, and as such, Disney has announced it’s upgrading.
As of 2021, the Walt Disney World Resort is going virtual, reinventing itself for the new digital era and making it easier for consumers to access the park. The new Disney MagicMobile app is designed to serve as a replacement for the MagicBand, offering a “convenient and contactless way to access MagicBand features like theme park entry through the power of your iPhone, Apple Watch.”
Those attending the park will be able to create their own Disney MagicMobile pass through the My Disney Experience app and add it to their Apple Wallet so it can be used all day long.
Right now, the service is exclusive to iPhone and Apple Watch, but Android support will follow.
During the transition period, MagicBand will continue to be supported, and users can even opt for a MagicBand as well as add their MagicBand to their Apple Wallet app for speed and convenience. In the years to come, it’s likely the MagicBand will be phased out.
