Like it wasn’t bad enough that the Super Bowl was a super bore and that 99.999% of the commercials turned out to be pricey stink bombs.

Even worse, Apple didn’t run an ad to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Mac and its iconic Big Brother Super Bowl ad as many fans had hoped the company might.

But ah, Monday morning the Apple faithful awoke to a little treat. Turns out the company did make an ad. In a sign of the times, though, instead of shelling out a fortune to run it on TV, they posted it on the company’s website and on YouTube.

Called “1.24.14,” the spot was shot entirely on iPhones on the day of the anniversary.

In the spot, the company proclaims the Mac was launched in 1984 to “put technology in the hands of the people.”

There are clips from 10 countries that show a wide range of things that people do with Apple gadgets.

The two-minute ad was created by TBWA Worldwide, the same agency that made the 1984 ad.
