Apple’s Apps for Earth Campaign Raises Over $8M for WWF

Apple has announced that its ten-day Apps for Earth campaign in April, which enabled users to spend on apps to raise money for the World Wildlife Fund’s conservation work, raised over $8 million.

The campaign saw the iOS App Store given a green – both spiritually and literally – makeover, with various apps given new logos and graphics and fresh interactive and educational content, all to raise awareness of environmental concerns. 100% of proceeds from app buys, including in-app purchases, went to supporting the WWF.

The $8 million figure was announced by the WWF at Apple’s WWDC conference in San Francisco this week and by Apple in a press release on its website. Apple’s eco-friendly efforts seem far from over; we have speculated that the firm could extend an especially green form of energy to its electric car project.
