‘Home Sweet Home Alone’ drops first teaser trailer

We have already written about a Home Alone reboot/remake set for a Disney+ release in November 2021, just ahead of the holiday season. The movie is going to be a reimagining of the first Home Alone movie starring Macaulay Culkin, focused on the young Max Mercer who is, like Kevin, left home alone by accidentally as his family goes on vacation.

Directed by Dan Mazer from a screenplay by Mikey Day and Streeter Seidell, the movie will see Archie Yates star as Max Mercer, “a mischievous and resourceful young boy who has been left behind while his family is in Japan for the holidays. So when a married couple attempting to retrieve a priceless heirloom set their sights on the Mercer family’s home, it is up to Max to protect it from the trespassers…and he will do whatever it takes to keep them out. Hilarious hijinks of epic proportions ensue, but despite the absolute chaos, Max comes to realize that there really is no place like home sweet home.” Yates is joined by Ellie Kemper, Rob Delaney, Kenan Thompson, Chris Parnell and more actors, who are going to play a major role in the movie.

Now, in preparation for the movie, Disney+ has released the first teaser trailer, which you can check out above. There are, as you can see, several similarities between this movie and the original Home Alone movie, which might be a good or bad thing, depending on how you perceive it; Chris Columbus, who directed both of the Caulkin movies, wasn’t overly happy with the idea, stating earlier: “What’s the point? I’m a firm believer that you don’t remake films that have had the longevity of Home Alone. You’re not going to create lightning in a bottle again. It’s just not going to happen. So why do it? It’s like doing a paint-by-numbers version of a Disney animated film — a live-action version of that. What’s the point? It’s been done. Do your own thing. Even if you fail miserably, at least you have come up with something original.”

Unlike Columbus, we are looking forward to the film, which will premiere on Disney+ on November 12, 2021 just in time to prepare us for Christmas!
