Everyone was scrambling to get their hands on an iPhone 5 when the pre-orders went on sale. Some sites were even advertising iPhone 5 Pajama Parties, since for most people in the United States, the on-sale time was bedtime. It didn't go well for some people. Once they signed on, they found two-week shipping times. That doesn't just mean one extra week; it means it won't ship out for two weeks, then has to travel to get to you. So it's an actual delay of two weeks. Instead of arriving by September 21, it will arrive by October 5.
I was all ready. Not only did I have my pajamas on, but I had the apple.com site open and had begun to explore the options. I was patiently waiting for 2 AM my time. Just before the magical hour hit, my dog got violently ill … from both ends … and was very sick afterwards, I thought we were going to lose her. I sat in the bathroom with her all night consoling her. Only after she fell asleep did I get out my iPad and try to order the iPhone. It was less than two hours since they went on sale, yet I found a two-week waiting time on every single iPhone 5 model.
What was I to do? I ordered it anyway. I'm not the type to sit in a line for several days in front of a store. I wasn't the only one. Several others also went ahead and just took what they could get with the additional two weeks added on. Some of those people are now getting improved shipping times. They are getting notices from Apple telling them they will be getting delivery on the 21st after all. Yippee!
However, I received no such email. I checked my order at the Apple Store just to be sure, and I still have a two-week wait. And I'lll keep checking, hoping maybe more phones show up somewhere and I'll be the luck recipient.
