iOS 8.4 has been available to the public for only a week, but it already accounts for more than 40% of all usage of iOS. That’s according to data that can be readily viewed on the Mixpanel website, and a surprisingly high percentage for what is an incremental iOS release. However, the release includes the much-hyped Apple Music, and this seems to have much driven iOS 8.4 adoption.
9to5Mac has pointed out that a few million iOS users will not be included in this percentage simply because they are already using beta iOS 9. Indeed, 9to5Mac has reported that, currently, iOS 9 is the third most popular iOS iteration among its readers.
Though Mixpanel is a third party service rather than any part of Apple, Apple has not – yet, at least – revealed its own statistics of what percentage of iOS usage is iOS 8.4 usage. Therefore, over the next few days, it will be interesting to repeatedly return to the Mixpanel page linked to above, in order to see how the rate of iOS 8.4 adoption continues.
