The California-based indie games developer Steampunk Wizards has released speedy retro runner title Neon Gliders, its first paid game, for iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch and Apple TV.
The fourth generation Apple TV has been touted particularly heavily for its gaming capabilities, and Steampunk Wizards claims that Neon Gliders “brings a fantastic gaming experience on the big screen.” The gameplay involves gliding for as long as possible while averting various obstacles.
Noting that his studio’s previously released games have built it as “a reputable player in the industry”, Joshua O’Cock, Steampunk Wizards’ CEO, has enthused that “the release of Neon Gliders for Apple TV proves that we are positioning ourselves at the forefront of the industry and we are pushing technological boundaries by showcasing our innovative capabilities”.
He added that, with this new game carrying an upfront price tag rather than opting for the now widespread “freemium” model, where games are offered for free but packed with options for in-app purchases, Neon Gliders is “opening up a new revenue model for us.”
We certainly like the game’s 1980s-style visual styling – and you can see if the gameplay similarly shapes up by downloading Neon Gliders from the tvOS or iOS App Store for $0.99.
