Having previously attracted negative publicity for pushy pop-ups urging many PC users to upgrade to Windows 10, Microsoft has now started sending out full-screen notifications which, despite polite wording, could still annoy users as the free upgrade period finally nears a close.
Since the launch of Windows 10 last summer, Windows 7 and 8.1 users have been eligible for this upgrade. However, as the new notification warns: “Sorry to interrupt, but this is important. Windows 10 free upgrade offer ends July 29.” Users can click to upgrade immediately or be reminded again later.
However, users can also click ‘Do not notify me again’ if they are genuinely not interested in the upgrade. Furthermore, according to Microsoft, the notifications will not appear to many people who have previously indicated their lack of interest in Windows 10. Computers that have been detected as incompatible with Windows 10 will also be spared the full-screen reminders.
