New Flyover, Traffic and Nearby Data Added to Apple Maps

Apple has further enhanced its Maps app by bringing the Flyover and Nearby functions to new locations. The company has also further expanded the Traffic information available.

According to MacRumors, four places – Aomori, Japan; Bruges, Belgium; Lake Powell, Utah; and Limoges, France – have been added to the Apple website’s list of Flyover locations. Flyover enables users to view detailed 3D recreations – which they can then zoom, pan and rotate – of select locations.

The Cupertino company’s website also notes that Traffic data for Hong Kong and Mexico and transit directions for Los Angeles are now available. Finally, the Nearby feature, which appears only in iOS 9, has been expanded to the United Kingdom and the Netherlands, allowing users in those countries to more swiftly locate local amenities such as restaurants and coffee shops.

Apple Maps is the stock mapping application in iOS, OS X and watchOS – and, since its debut three-and-a-half years ago, has far surpassed Google Maps in popularity on iOS.
